Porcelain Veneer
Many people go through life embarrassed about their smiles. They know that their teeth aren't perfectly shaped, aren't a bright white color. When this happens, people refuse to show their teeth when they smile - a sad state of affairs. The answer to this is to use a porcelain veneer.
A porcelain veneer is several thin layers of porcelain, bonded to cover the front of a tooth. The layers are custom made, tooth by tooth. The procedure takes two visits over two weeks to complete. Once it's done, each tooth you choose to enhance will have a porcelain veneer that brightens your smile and restores any confidence you might have lost.
There are any number of reasons why a porcelain veneer might be for you. Many people, as they grow, have teeth that don't move together perfectly, leaving gaps. A porcelain veneer can be crafted to close a gap or space between your teeth, giving your smile the appearance of having every tooth lined up perfectly - without expensive orthodontia. Sometimes, through heavy fluoride use, or various types of bad habit, your teeth can become permanently discolored. When that happens, a porcelain veneer can be use, lain over your teeth to restore their original, white color.
Some of your teeth may join your gum line at an angle, and appear crooked in your mouth. A porcelain veneer can be used to make those teeth appear straight - the straight porcelain veneer covers over the crookedness of the tooth underneath. Sometime, teeth can also be too short relative to the surrounding teeth. When that happens, a porcelain veneer can be used to lengthen the offending tooth, and created a more regular and pleasing smile.
One major advantage of a porcelain veneer is that the porcelain is very similar to tooth enamel, but without the ability to decay. They will also resist staining. A porcelain veneer is strong, adding to the strength of the underlying tooth and providing a substantial amount of additional protection.
The process of putting a porcelain veneer in your mouth has two steps. First, Dr. Hever will reshape your tooth, roughening it to remove a part of the tooth enamel. The reason why this needs to be done is that the roughened tooth surface will bond much more easily with the porcelain veneer.
After this shaping, Dr. Hever will take impressions of your teeth. These models are needed to create porcelain veneers that are an exact fit in your mouth. You may need a temporary veneer until your porcelain veneer is ready. At your next visit, he'll test your veneers to make sure that they fit properly, and that they look like the rest of your teeth. The porcelain veneers can be trimmed slightly if they don't look quite right. After your teeth are cleaned, a type of dental bonding cement is used to permanently bond the porcelain veneers with your teeth.
